Homemade Face Masks For Acne

If you have acne then you know how uncomfortable it can make you physically and especially socially.

There are many old wife’s tales about what works and what doesn’t but there are a few tried and true methods that everyone has found useful. Here are some simple, cheap and effective facial masks to help pull the oils out that are the root cause of most acne.

Deep Sea Scrub

One of the easiest and cheapest of these homemade masks is the salt variety. All is required is some cooking or sea salt and some fresh water. Pour the salt into the water and wait for twenty minutes for the salt to dissolve. Then apply the infusion to the infected area and leave it there for thirty minutes. This treatment will remove most of the surface and subcutaneous oils that cause the infection. If you live near the sea, swimming in a salty water source is another great option.

A Little Baking Sodaacne products

Baking soda is another fantastic acne mask. All you need for this is more fresh water and baking soda. Clean the affected area thoroughly and exfoliate. Mix the baking soda and water then apply it to the affected area. Leave the mixture on for about thirty minutes. The baking soda is useful because it is to use to exfoliate and it is helpful in drying up some of the excess oil that is at the root results. If it is effective for you, repeat once a day. This treatment method may not work for all skin types, but some people report fantastic

Yogurt & Honey

Another cheap and useful facial mask for especially dry skin is a mixture of honey and yogurt. This mask works well because the yogurt helps to restore your body’s pH as well as provides added moisture. Honey has tons of microbial properties that are useful for your skin and it’s a powerful antioxidant.
When you are making your mask, if the honey is a little hard, heat it up for a few seconds so it has a soft texture. Mix honey with a tablespoon of regular fat yogurt (low fat yogurt isn’t as good a choice as the fats are what hydrate your skin) then apply it to the infected areas. Leave the application on for about twenty minutes before removing with a soft washcloth. Use it three times a week for optimal effect.

Oatmeal And Onions

An oatmeal and onion mask is a bit more complex, but it is one of the more promising in its efficiency. Peel an onion of medium size and puree it in a Kitchen aide or blender. Then cook a half cup of unsweetened oatmeal.

Let the oatmeal cool and add the pureed onion to the mixture. If it is not thick enough to apply in a mask form, you may want to add a bit of honey. Let the mixture cool, and then apply to your face. Leave the mask on for about fifteen minutes. Then rinse the mask off with fresh water. This mask works so well because oatmeal helps to slough off excess skin and onion is a natural anti-inflammatory.

Egg Whites

The last type of homemade mask you can try is an egg white mixture. It is a little more preparation, because you must separate the yoke from the whites before applying. Then whip your separated egg whites into an applicable paste. If you have particularly oily skin, you may want to add a few drops of lemon juice to your mixture.

Use fresh water to wash your face, and then apply the paste. Let the mask sit on your face for about twenty minutes before washing away with warm water. This will tighten and soften your skin as well as help cure your acne.
