What Is Comedonal Acne?

There are many forms of acne, so before you go to treat a particular variety, be sure to understand what kind you have. Comedonal is the most common type, often referred to as black or white head acne. These are small bumps that form on the skin at the opening pore of the sebaceous follicle, which are often lighter or darker than the nearby skin, hence the name blackhead, or whiteheads.

These two different types of comedonal are caused by different situations.

The “blackheads” are most often caused from a buildup of oil oxidation in the skin. The “whiteheads” are created by an adverse prevention of appropriate oxidation of the skin’s oils in your pores. While comedonal acne can strike anyone, at any age, teenagers are the most often affected by these whitehead or blackhead productions on the skin because of the hormones associated with adolescence.

The most effective treatment is actually a cleansing wash with a soft soap and fresh hot water. Exfoliation is extremely important to release the oils that cling to your face, often because of overproduction during puberty. In adults, this oil buildup can be caused by any number of things, but more often than not it is caused by touching or holding your oily hands against your face.

Factors & Treatments

Another common factor in both teens and adults in acne production is stress or air pollution, aggravating the comedonal acne infection.

These oils and pollutants can be removed from the surface of the skin daily by exfoliation with soap and hot water, or a fresh facial made of natural fruits. If stress is the major factor in the production of your acne, you may want to change your lifestyle, or try listening to soothing music.

Most treatments today, such as Acnetene, are used to treat the comedonal infections, mostly marketed as “anti-blemish” medications. These anti-blemish creams are effective at treating large infections of comedonal acne, but you may want to speak to your doctor before choosing a treatment that is right for you.

Both whitehead and blackhead varieties of comedonal acne are often referred to by doctors as Grade 1 Inflammatory acnes. Blackheads have a longer natural infection length than whiteheads, but both can stay on the epidermis for long periods of time.

One of the best and most used treatments for the comedonal outbreaks is drinking or making a facial infusion of green tea.

This is because it contains many antioxidants that pull the oils that cause this type of acne off of the skin. Topical or an oral dose of the Aloe Vera plant can also be very beneficial for its antioxidant effects. Drinking large quantities of soda or coffee can also pull away a lot of the natural oils that can prevent this type of acne, and add unnatural oils to the skin that build up on the pores and cause an acne infection.
