Causes Of Hair Growth Problems For Women

Just as men have hair growth problems, women have to deal with hair loss and minimal hair growth as well. The causes of hair growth problems for women are also quite varied.

In women, hair growth usually has less to do with testosterone conversion to DHT. If the woman’s genetic make-up predisposes her to hair loss then she is definitely disposed toward baldness. However, baldness is determined by two factors, rather than genetics alone. Because women do not have the same amount of testosterone as men do, they are more fortunate regarding hair loss.

The second factor, the DHT factor which affects men just by virtue of their being male, is greatly diminished in women. By women having much less testosterone, not nearly as much DHT can be produced by conversion.

Tumors Can Be A Cause Of Hair Loss hair growth problems for womenvitamins for hair growth problems women

In women, baldness can often be attributed to a tumor of androgenic origin. These tumors can secrete enormous amounts of testosterone of which abnormally large amounts can be converted into dihydrotestosterone by the enzymatic action of 5-alpha-reductase.

This leaves the woman in the same hormonal state as a male. Drugs are another reason that can contribute to the hair growth problems that women face. There are several prescription drugs that have anagen effluvium as side effects. Most of these are chemotherapeutic drugs but some of them are for other physical conditions. Exposure to metals like mercury, lead, and thallium has also been reported to cause hair loss problems.

The Role Of Diet And Nutrition

Women have the same dietary and hygienic requirements as do males. A normal female will lose hair if her nutritional intake does not provide the vitamins and minerals needed for healthy hair growth. Vitamin B is necessary for improved health, thickness, strength and shin.

Typically hair growth vitamins for women will help accelerate and prolong the anagen phase whereby follicles are growing at their fastest rate. Most of your B Vitamins will be beneficial to your hair but B 3, 6, 9 and 12 are the ones to concentrate on. In short, a multi vitamin should give you all you need regarding vitamins for your hair growth.

Keeping Good Hygiene

Washing your hair to keep it clean and free of oil accumulations will prevent clogging of pores.

When pores around the hair follicles are clogged with oil and debris, they will reduce blood flow to the follicle. This prevents oxygen exchange and nourishment from reaching the follicles. In time, this will lead to the death of hair follicles and the hair falls out.

Normal hygiene and the use of hair growth products for women will help prevent pores from becoming clogged. Often, overactive oil glands near the hair follicles produce too much oil which then contributes to the oily appearance and feeling of hair. Too vigorous and too frequent washing of hair can produce exactly the opposite of the desired effect. It will stimulate the oil glands to produce even more oil. Using good judgment and normal hygiene should be sufficient.

Circulation Help Keep Hair Healthy

When you wash your hair, you are massaging the scalp. This increases blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles. Your hair will grow stronger and thicker by letting your blood supply surround each hair follicle and nourish it. This encourages new and faster growth as well. There are a number of shampoos and follicle stimulators that will also help in preventing hair loss and "boosting" follicle development and aiding in regrowth.
