What Causes an Oily Complexion?

Genetics plays a large role in what causes an oily complexion.

If your mother or father had oily skin, as did one of your grandparents or aunts and uncles, chances are that you will suffer some oiliness, too.

The type of skin you have has been determined before you were born. There is nothing you can do with respect to your genes; but, you can control many environmental factors and skin products you use.

Exposing your skin to air pollutants and contaminants will contribute to increased oil expressed from oil glands. The oil glands, or sebaceous glands, are part of the epidermis. When exposed to heat, chemicals, or you have an allergic reaction, these glands may over produce - especially in the key complexion areas such as on the bridge of the nose, forehead, cheeks and chin

Who Gets Oily Skin?

The people who are more predisposed to a complexion that is oily are those with changes in hormones, especially teenagers. This is so because during this age, hormones kick in and change the balance of androgens, estrogens and progesterone your body has been used to for the past thirteen or more years.

Later, when you are older but still experience outbreaks of oiliness, think about your stress level. Perhaps you should reduce your extracurricular activity in school. Too many activities in addition to your normal class load may put excessive mental pressure on you.

If you are in college, perhaps you need to drop a class to make your life a little easier.

Examine your schedules, your life and think about what you can change to make it a little less stressful. Certain medications may give you oily skin as well. If your diet is deficient of some vitamins and minerals, that may result in oilier than normal complexion. Heat and humidity also promote increased oil production in sebaceous glands.

How To Prevent Oily ComplexionNourish oily skin face wash

We have to come back to the question of what causes oily complexion. The answer was that a hereditary factor is at work, to a large extent, which leaves much of your skin reactions out of your control. What you can and should do to minimize excess oils is to wash your face gently a couple of times a day. Drug stores and online retailers carry certain brands of cleansers for oily skin. Make sure you follow-up your regimen with a skin firming lotion that will help close your pores and moisturize your skin. This should be applied in the evening.

One piece of advice is not to scrub hard when you wash your skin. Washing your face two times a day or more often if you have just exercised or done something that caused you to perspire. Washing gently to remove the oil from your skin will prevent damage to your epidermis. The reason you should not scrub hard is that the skin’s response to irritation is to produce more oil.

Scrubbing not only opens pores, it will also bring greater blood flow to the skin which is good but at the same time scrubbing will activate the follicles and sebaceous glands. The bottom line is to maintain a good
regimen or routine that you can stick to...this is one of the best ways to keep oily skin or complexion at bay.

What Are The Outcomes Having Of Oily Skin

If oily skin persists without special care of any kind, it will result in pores that are larger than normal, giving the face an appearance of the tiniest little pit marks in your cheeks, chin and forehead. These large pores are great areas where dirt can collect to mix with sebum from sebaceous glands to form acne. These are not life-threatening conditions but they certainly have an impact on the teenagers or young adult’s social life.
