The Benefits Of A Clarifying Shampoo

The benefits of using a clarifying shampoo are wide-ranging. With the use of styling aids, conditioners, sprays, etc., build-up on the hair can lead to slow growth, damage, loss of color, and frizz. A deep cleaning periodically can do wonders to revitalize the health of your hair and renew it's freshness!
  • Clean oil, dirt, bacteria, and product residue
  • Open and irrigate follicle pores
  • Improve circulation and blood flow to scalp and hair
  • Increase nutrient delivery to follicle root and shaft
If you notice that your hair is looking lifeless, dull, oily, or flat, you may want to try a clarifying shampoo. Many of the products aimed at making our hair look beautiful, such as mousse, gel, wax, and hairspray, build up over time, weighing hair down. Chlorine and other chemicals from swimming pools, and even mineral deposits from hard water, can also build up. Leave in conditioners meant to protect your hair from heat styling and the elements can leave residue, making hair appear oily and limp. A clarifying shampoo removes build-up and residue caused by products, hard water and chemicals to restore body and shine.

The best clarifying shampoos use ingredients that many people try to avoid in their regular shampoo, surfactants. Lauryl sulfate is one of the most commonly used surfactants in shampoos. Surfactants are what give most shampoos their lathering ability, but they also strip hair of natural oils that protect it from damage from heat styling, the sun, and salty air. While many people try to avoid surfactants in the shampoos they use on a daily basis, surfactants are the key ingredient in most clarifying shampoos. The surfactants strip away all of the buildup from hair products, minerals and chemicals. Several, such as Follicleanse, us botanical extracts, gentle surfactants, balanced pH, Zinc and paraben-free preservatives to accomplish the same thing - this allows the deep cleaning without high risk to color, perms and natural oils.

How To Use

The "mantra" is once per week unless you have oily hair. When using a clarifying shampoo to remove buildup in hair, you may need to shampoo more than once. Put a small amount of the clarifying shampoo into your hand and then massage it through your hair. Depending on residue accumulation, it may not lather very well. If you donít get a lot of lather the first time, rinse and repeat. The second or third shampooing should result in a lot of lather, indicating that most of the buildup is gone. Rinse your hair and then style normally. You should notice afterwards that your hair is lighter, bouncier, and shinier.

How Often?

This depends on the amount of hair products you use daily, how often you swim in a pool, and if you have hard water. Many people find that using a clarifying shampoo once a month is enough to eliminate product, mineral, and chemical buildup and restore the shine and bounce to their hair. If you use multiple styling aids daily, such as a leave-in conditioner, gel or mousse, and hairspray, you may need to clarify once every two weeks. This may be true for those who swim frequently in chlorinated water as well. If you have hard water, you may also find that you need to clarify more than once a month. The best indication is the condition of your hair; if it is looking oily, has dandruff symptoms, dull, or flat, then it is probably time to clarify. Because of the harsh nature of clarifying shampoos, you donít want to use them too frequently or you will strip your hair of all of its oils and make it more vulnerable to damage.

Clarifying shampoo has many benefits primarily the ability to deep-clean residue periodically. We recommend they be used weekly and perhaps daily depending on scalp and hair conditions. Many have been developed for use as a daily treatment, however your experience may warrant gradual increased use depending on desired effects and your reaction.
