5 Quick Tips For Managing Dandruff

Understanding dandruff can help you get further in treating the flakes that are coming off of your scalp. This scalp disorder is responsible for itching and flaking of the head. It is very common and not considered dangerous but can be very embarrassing. It is generally caused by dry skin and this most often happens during the winter months. Though it may seem to go against common sense, oily skin can also be a cause of dandruff. There are a lot more than just five simple tips for managing flakes, but here are a few to get you started...

Maintain Your Healthfollicleanse for dandruff

While this may simply sound like a ‘no brainer’ one of the most important ways of managing dandruff is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This means you’ll want to make sure you stay hydrated by drinking at least the minimum eight glasses of water a day. In addition, maintaining a well balanced diet with lots of fruits and veggies, adding a fish oil supplement and getting some sun exposure (in small doses) to your scalp can go a long way with warding off the dry flakes. Maintain your hygiene as well. It can be easy to forget, but it is truly important that you don’t skip a shower and that you don’t dig at your scalp.

Oil Treatment, Shampoo & Conditioner

If you’re looking for a quick fix because you’re headed out for an evening on the town, the first thing you’re going to want to do is treat your scalp with oil. You can use baby oil, olive oil or tea tree oil and still achieve good results. Make sure to massage it into your scalp but do not dig at it with your fingernails.

If your dandruff is combined with an oily scalp you should also consider making your shower as hot as you can tolerate it. This will help to dissolve the oils and remove them. Once you have washed your hair thoroughly and rinsed it apply your conditioner. Work from the tips up to your scalp. Once it has been worked through your hair very well you’ll want to use a soft bristled brush to run it from the scalp back down to the tips. This will help to remove the excess skin.

With colder weather, flaking, itching and tight skin on the scalp can be managed by using the best shampoo for dandruff and dry scalp available. Dry air, low temperatures dry-out tissue making it tight and prone to rashes that can crack - resulting in flakes and soreness. Many cleansers make the problem worse. Use a cleanser that does not have parabens for preservatives and that helps moisturize, treat, and soothes the scalp. This will relieve excess flaking and tightness of the scalp tissue.

Home Remedies

Another great way to get rid of your dandruff is to turn to your kitchen pantry. Both lemon and lime juice have been said to be great for ridding a person of dandruff. The best way to do this is to mix one to two teaspoons with about one cup of warm water. Apply this to your scalp on a daily basis before washing your hair. Repeat it until you no longer find dandruff flakes.

Vinegar

Apple Cider or even regular vinegar worked through your hair and into your scalp can be great for ridding it of troublesome flakes. With vinegar it’s a great idea to let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out and then shampooing thoroughly. A couple of tablespoons massaged directly into your scalp without mixing it with water or anything else is recommended for best results.

Specialized Shampoos

If your dandruff is caused by Seborrhoeic dermatitis then you’re going to want to head out and get a specialized shampoo. There are a couple of ingredients to keep your eye out for: Selenium Sulfide, Tar, or ketoconazole. These are generally not all in the same product.
