Treatment For Dry Hair

When you hair is dry or dehydrated it can make your hair feel rough and stiff like straw. Once it is dried out it look flat, feels course, breaks easily, is frizzy and looks and feels out of control.

Why Is Your Hair Dry? why is your hair dry
There are many things that can cause your hair to become dry. Extreme sun or heat will burn the scalp causing loss of oil production leading to dry hair. The same thing happens when you color you hair, the chemicals wash away the natural oils on your scalp leaving your hair dry and stiff. Heat tools can also cause your hair to dry out as well, but usually not as bad as chemical treatments. Perms, dye and bleach are 3 of the worst things you can do to your hair, the strip the sebum from the hair and scalp and cause your hair to become weak and brittle. Then again some people are born with dry hair. This happens when the proteins that lock in moisture to the hair follicle is absent, or low. So knowing why your hair is dry is half of the battle lets learn what you can do to fix it.

How To Fix Dry Hair
Dry hair is a common problem which means it is pretty easy to fix and maintain. Remember that dry hair breaks easily so do not braid it or stress it if at all possible. When washing your hair gently massage your hair don't scrub or scratch. Gently fix your hair, try to only do it when it dry, this will cut down on hair breakage. If you can let hair dry naturally at least twice a week to give it a break from blow drying. Don't wash your hair every day, this can dry hair out even more.

Use a shampoo that will lock in moisture, or find a hydrating shampoo that is sulfate free. This will help coat your hair in a protective layer, holding moisture in and keeping all other elements out. Use a leave in conditioner even on days you do not wash your hair, this will help treat dry hair. Stay away from alcohol based styling products, these will severely dry your hair out. Finally if your going to be in the sun for long periods of time cover your head to keep from getting your hair over-exposed to the sun.

Home Treatments For Dry Hair
Here are a few things you can do to deep treat your hair at home.

Mayo
1). Add 2-3 table spoons of mayo to your hair massage in and let sit for 20 min. then rinse. This will give you smooth conditioned hair.

Olive or Argan Oil olive oil for hair
1). Massage a table spoon into your hair.
2). Wrap your head in a towel for 20 min.
3). If using olive oil wash out and style, if using argan oil style hair normally

Egg Yolks
1). Take 3 egg yolks
2). Add a splash of water and mix
3). Wet hair and massage into
4). Let sit for 15 min. then rinse with warm water

Products To Treat Dry Hair
Look for shampoos that contain keratin which will help rebuild the hair follicle, this will help the hair hold moisture better. Find a conditioner that uses protein, this will help fortify damaged areas to make hair stronger. Use natural oils to deep condition hair, like argan emu or jojoba oil. Find a sulfate free shampoo that works for you, sulfates can dry hair out as well.
