At any one time, about 10 percent of the hair on your scalp is in a resting phase. After 2 to 3 months, the resting hair falls out and new hair starts to grow in its place. It is normal to shed some hair each day, during this cycle. However, some people have excessive hair loss that is due to other issues.

There are a number of things that can cause hair loss. For example, three to four months after a severe illness or surgery some people make experience hair loss. It is due to stress from their sicknesses and is only temporary. Hormonal problems may also cause hair loss. Imbalances in estrogen and androgen may also cause hair loss in women and men.
